Although Ro studied classical cello and spent most of her youth in orchestras, she has brought her rich tone to a vast landscape of genres within the Los Angeles, Boston and New York music scene since 2002.

In the early 2000s, while attending UCLA pursuing a degree in Musicology and playing in the UCLA Symphony Orchestra, Ro began to focus on her longtime interest to play the cello in non-classical settings.

After graduating from UCLA, Ro worked as a personal fitness trainer.  She ran her own personal fitness training business during the day and played music in and around Los Angeles at night and on the weekends. In addition, she worked as a studio musician for artists such as Mike Posner, Common Kings, Tiffany, Bob Forrest, Sparklemotion and Lunar Click.  She also played on Deepak Chopra’s meditation CD, The Secrets of Healing.

In 2010, Ro was accepted into Berklee College of Music and began pursuing a degree in Electronic Production & Design.  During her time at Berklee, Ro studied cello with Eugene Friesen (Paul Winter Consort), Simon Shaheen (Qantara) and Owen Young (Boston Symphony Orchestra).  She played with the prestigious Berklee World Strings under the direction of Friesen and also served as principal cellist for Berklee’s newly formed Scoring Sessions Program (2012 – 2013) under the direction of George S. Clinton.  Ro performed with/for such well-known musicians/composers as Lorde, Willie Nelson, Annie Lennox, The Boston Pops, Dream Theater, Alan Silvestri, George S. Clinton, Ron Carter, Terri Lyne Carrington, Lalah Hathaway and Melissa Ferrick.  In 2014 she performed with The Western Den, opening for Melissa Etheridge in Symphony Hall.

While at Berklee, Ro played cello in over 330 studio recording/film scoring sessions and 150 concerts.  She was awarded the North American Scholarship, William Randolph Hearst Scholarship, Outstanding Scholar Award, Berklee Achievement Scholarship and the Laurie Anderson Women in Music Technology Award from the EPD Department.  To date, Ro’s cello can be heard on over 200 tracks for more than 85 albums, motion picture soundtracks, video games and short films.

Ro was also a DJ for the college’s Internet radio station, the Berklee Internet Radio Network (BIRN), hosting three shows from 2010 through 2011.  She conducted interviews with artists such as Zoe Keating, Lenka, Jason Reeves, Gaby Moreno, Amber Rubarth, The Milk Carton Kids and Joe Purdy.  Ro was also a part of the Video Team within the Management Group at the BIRN which successfully created a video presence for the station by developing content for the new BIRN YouTube Channel.

Ro’s involvement with the BIRN sparked another longtime passion, photography and videography. In June of 2012, Ro created The ASA Collective, a website dedicated to showcasing and connecting mindful artists through video and collaboration. Realizing she was surrounded by a pool of talented musicians, she felt inspired to support all those on a creative journey. Ro acts as creative director, videographer, photographer, video editor and web designer.

After spending the better part of 2014 interning at Apple with their Music Application Content team, Ro landed tours with two bands in the summer of 2015 and finished out the year in New York playing cello for the Off-Broadway revival of Once Upon A Mattress, her fourth musical.

Ro is currently in Los Angeles pursuing cello performance, songwriting and sound design. She most recently released her music video debut, “1997,” and was featured on The Huffington Post and Curve Magazine. In addition to working as a freelance musician, she also continues to work as a photographer and videographer.
